Own two (or more) computers? Need to move files between them? Even between Mac and Windows? Check out CrystalFire Wormhole!

Wormhole is a file transfer utility for Mac OS X and Windows XP/2000. It requires only a TCP network (such as most LANS and the Internet), in order to allow cross-platform file transfers.

Sure, there are other ways to move files between Windows and Mac, but many users prefer the simplicity of Wormhole. Need to transfer a file on your home network or office LAN? Just launch Wormhole on both machines, and you're ready to go! Wormhole automatically locates the other one, and a colorful "wormhole" window appears on each computer. Drop the file you want to transfer onto one "end" of the wormhole, and it will are immediately be transferred to the other!

Wormhole is multiple-computer friendly. It can copy Windows to Windows, Windows to Mac, and Mac to Mac (Mac to Mac copies even copy the resource fork correctly!) And since Wormhole is implemented completely as an application, there are no extensions or DLL's to mess up your computer.

Price

Wormhole costs only $15 per serial number; each computer needs its own serial number. So if you have two computers you want to transfer files with (the typical case), it's $30. If you have additional computers, laptops, etc., you should buy licenses for them if you want to use Wormhole on them.

There is also a "family site license" available, which supports up to ten computers owned by a single family. This license costs $50, so you'll want to consider it if you were going to buy four or more licenses.

Buying a lot of copies of Wormhole? Contact us for bulk pricing or site licenses.

Wormhole comes with a 30-day money-back guarantee: if you don't like it, let us know why, and we'll give you your money back! But even better -- you can try before you buy! Just download the application here, and give it a whirl for as long as you like. The demo version limit how many files can be transferred (in both size and number), and puts up a dialog every half hour, but is otherwise fully functional.

Wormhole is meant for LAN copying. For most people, it will work over the Internet (with an extra connection step) as well, but some folks will have trouble because of their firewall, router, proxy server, or other security devices. PLEASE download the demo and make sure it works for you before purchasing a copy. If it won't work for you, we'd rather not take your money in the first place! For tips on how to make Wormhole work for Internet copying, see the documentation.

Changes in Version 2.4.0

2.4.0 is mostly a Leopard (Mac OS 10.5) compatibility release, recommended for everyone using any version of 2.0

  • Wormhole will now work more reliably when launched at startup on Mac OS X Tiger and Leopard.
  • When Wormhole fails to connect, it will tell you what address it was trying to connect to.
  • A few command-line options are available for using Wormhole from a command line. Contact us for details.
  • Wormhole is now more tolerant of file system errors (and will provide better messages for them).

Changes in Version 2.3.2

2.3.2 is primarily a bug fix release, recommended for everyone using any version of 2.0

  • Fixed several bugs with bookmark handling on Windows (see release notes for more)
  • Fixed a cosmetic bug in Windows vista
  • Fixed a cosmetic problem where the "bytes sent/received" indicators would reset after 4.2 GBs.
  • Added a "GB" indicator to the bytes sent/received indicators for large files.
  • Better error handling in general.

Changes in Version 2.3.0

2.2.0 is primarily a bug fix release.

  • Changed the Wormhole port from 14700 to 14689 by default, to conflict with fewer 3rd-party apps. If you've opened firewall ports for Wormhole, be sure to change them to the new value.
  • Updated several error messages.
  • Fixed still more cases where the "bind() failed" message would come up.
  • Fixed a problem on Windows that could cause Wormhole to stop listening for other wormholes after a few seconds..
  • Better error handling in general.

Changes in Version 2.2.0

2.2.0 is primarily a speed enhancement and bug fix release.

  • Still another attempt to fix the "bind() failed" message.
  • More details on network failure messages.
  • For small networks, new wormholes will be detected and connected to more quickly.
  • Added some commercial features.
  • Better error handling in general.
  • Make the issue with cross-connections (see 2.1.0 last note) much less likely.

Changes in Version 2.1.0

2.1.0 mainly adds functionality on systems with multiple network connectors, and fixes issues with newer operating systems.

  • Fixes a compatibility issue with 64-bit Windows Vista.
  • Fixes an issue with Mac OS 10.4.8 and multiple network connections.
  • Wormhole is better about releasing its ports when it's done.
  • Fixed an issue with the "ghost" network adaptor created by Parallels on the Mac.
  • Better error handling in general.
  • Better support (OK, support at all) for multiple-network systems.
  • Known Issue: If you launch Wormhole on two computers almost simultaneously, they'll each connect to the other, giving you two identical wormholes. You can either use 'em both or close one, doesn't matter. We're looking into it.

Changes in Version 2.0.2

2.0.2 is primarily a bug fix verision. All users of 2.0.1 are encouraged to upgrade.

  • Fixed several bugs with network errors not being reported.
  • The execution log file is no longer in the receive directory: it's in ~/Library/Logs on the Mac, and in "My Documents" on Windows.
  • Wormhole should no longer start up, then silently shut down when it's port is in use.
  • Fixed a hang that occurred when Mac->Windows transfers file names contained question or quotation marks. (Which aren't legal in Windows filenames)
  • Fixed a hand that occurred when Mac->Windows transfers contained files whose names were all spaces (also not legal in Windows)
  • Several error messages have been improved with more information.
  • Known Issue: If you launch Wormhole on two computers almost simultaneously, they'll each connect to the other, giving you two identical wormholes. You can either use 'em both or close one, doesn't matter. We're looking into it.

Changes in Version 2.0

  • Version 2.0 is nearly a complete re-write, multithreaded throughout.
  • Support has been dropped for older operating systems (but 1.2.5 is still available if you need to run on them)
  • You can edit, rename, and delete bookmarks.
  • You can now send files in both directions at the same time.
  • File transfers are fast again.
  • The GUI is much more responsive, you can do things while files are transferring.
  • Wormhole crashes can now automatically generate an e-mail to support (don't worry, you get to see it first).
  • There's a "check for updates" link that comes here.
  • Numerous smaller fixes, and Wormhole's better about using memory now.

Changes in Version 1.2.5

  • Extensive reporting and logging changes,
  • Wormhole shouldn't ever quit without telling you why now.
  • Wormhole's less picky about transferring files marked as "temporary" in Windows. This was causing it to skip files created by slightly buggy programs.
  • Startup is slightly faster.
  • A number of small bug fixes.
